Hi, I’m Debra

I help my clients do more with technical writing support

Writing About Technical Issues

My particular skill is translating complex issues into accurate and easy to understand information.

I am passionate about clear writing to support consultation and decision-making processes.

I trained as a journalist and worked at the Hamilton Press where I reported on environmental, education and arts topics. I also enjoyed writing the copy for the Waikato Times’ Fieldays supplement over two successive years.

I then began working in the local government sector and my interest in this sector spans more than 20 years, as both an employee (primarily in environmental policy roles) and now by providing research, policy development, writing and editing services for councils.

“Specifically you bring to your team (and to Council) a remarkably positive can-do attitude that is backed up by clear strategic thinking and attention to detail.”

Keith Marshall, Chief Executive, Nelson City Council

I am also a big fan of lifelong learning.

My qualifications include:

  • BA (Hons) in English Literature (Waikato University)
  • Diploma in Journalism (Auckland Institute of Technology)
  • Diploma in Environmental Studies (Open Polytechnic of New Zealand).
  • Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing (Whitireia New Zealand).
